Optimal post shape:
The DT Post® shape

The larger coronal tapers:

dramatically improve adaptation throughout the length of the canal
increase the strength of the posts
minimize the resin cement layer

Conservative 0.02 apical taper minimizes tooth structure removal.

Fiber posts – the beginning:

Unlike metal or ceramic, fiber posts exbibit physical properties that are very similar to dentin. This reduces stress transmission to the root, avoiding the possible irreversible longtitudinal fracture associated with other materials. Early clinical studies by Mannoci and Ferrari showed a 9% root fracture rate with cast posts at 4 years vs. a 0% fracture rate with fiber posts at 4 years.

DT Post® offers an ideal solution from both a prosthodontic and an endodontic point of view.1, 2

Apical portion at .02 taper conserves the apical tooth structure, allows for use of longer posts and reduces the risk of incorrect post room preparation.1, 2

With middle portions or varying tapers, DT Post® follows the natural shape of the canal walls, reducing the need for canal modification and optimizing post strength.1, 2

The larger diameter, parallel coronal portion offers a significantly stronger post than either a single taper or parallel alternative, while reducing the amount of resin cement in the coronal space.1, 2

“The DT Post® shape design offers better adaptation of the post to endodontically treated canals without compromising the final restoration.” 1, 2

Choosing the right post size:

When using parallel or non-anatomical posts, clinicians often have selected the smallest post possible in order to conserve remaining dentition. This choice has also been influenced by the rigidity of steel or titanium. With anatomical fiber posts (DT and ISO), the clinician can select a larger post size without risk of root fracture and without reducing remaining tooth structure.

Optimal post material

Eliminate Root Fractures with DT Post®

DT Post® is manufactured from advanced glass fibers in a UDMA matrix. The modulus of elasticity closely resembles that of natural dentin, thus preventing the transmission of occlusal forces to the root. Stainless steel, zircanium and titanium posts transmit occlusal forces to the root, increasing the risk of root fracture.3

Ideal under Esthetic restorations

The translucent-white color of
DT Post® is invisible under all modern esthetic crown and bridge materials.

NEW! Higher radiocapity:

The number 1 complaint of previous fiber post systems is the difficulty of detecting the post on a radiograph. DT Post® now have a considerably higher level of radiopacity.

Excellent light transmission for use with dual-cure resins

DT Post® offers excellent light transmission through the optic fiber material.

Micro-mechanical retention provides a secure attachment of the core and crown.

NEW! Higher Bond Strengths with self-adhesive resin cements

In a recent comparative study,
DT Post® exhibited between 15% and 63% higher microtensile bond strength, depending on the brand of self-adhesive resin cement that was used.5

NEW! Easier to use

DT Post® offered the same adhesion without any surface treatment, or with treatment of either alcohol or H2O2 and silanization for 60 seconds.5

How can fiber posts be compared?

Unlike metal posts which exhibit identical physical properties from brand to brand, the quality of fiber posts is subject to a wide variation. When a fiber post fractures, it is really the resin/glass fiber interface that is de-bonding. The first test that is used to Evaluate the manufacturing quality is a standard fracture load test (e.g. CRA), which shows how much force is required to break the post. The second test simulates de-bonding under repeated load (Dental Materials). This tests the post’s ability to withstand occlusal forces over time.
